Hopscotch

Hopscotch is a fun activity that allows kids to get moving! Additionally, it is a game that can be played with one or more players, so it will become a favorite that your little ones can play anytime they would like.

Activity Instructions

Help your kids draw a series of connected boxes on the sidewalk or driveway with chalk. Start with one box, then above it draw two boxes (centering them over the first box), and from there choose whatever pattern your children would like. Just make sure that all of the single boxes are centered above and below the double boxes, so that kids can jump in a straight line when the game begins. After the boxes are drawn, help your children find a small rock or piece of mulch that they like. This will be their marker. Demonstrate how to play the game first, then allow your kids to take turns. First, throw your marker into one of the boxes. Next, hop from one box to the next using one foot to land on single boxes and two feet to land on double boxes (one foot in each box). Make sure to skip the box that has the marker. When you get to the end, ask your kids if they have any questions about the rules, which are very basic. First, they have to have their feet inside the boxes as they hop. Second, they have to hop over the box with the marker in it. Third, they must take turns.
