Step into Another

To help your tween or teen gain understanding through different perspectives and points of view, which is a crucial step in learning responsibility.

Activity Instructions:

Have your teen think of a conflict she's experiencing with a friend, parent or sibling. Now, ask her to close his eyes and imagine herself and her side of the problem through the eyes of the other person involved.

Ask specific questions, such as:

  • What is the other person feeling, experiencing and perceiving?
  • What important points are they trying to make?
  • What do they want you to understand about their feelings?

Have your teen write his answers down, and go over the answers with him to come with a win/win resolution to the conflict.

Outcome:

Your teen will gain valuable skills to help understand how others experience a situation, event or conflict. He can apply this understanding to develop conflict resolution skills and improve relationships.
