From the beginning of time, men have been represented as the bold hunter, the gatherer, and the protector of the family and/or community. Perhaps this is much of the reason that pressing them into a milestone such as potty training before they are ready may likely be met with obstinance and defiance. It is true that little boys usually take longer than little girls to potty train but that is not always true. Perhaps the best start is to use some semantics and change your use of the word "training" into the word "inspiration" or "challenge." Boys love a challenge and they strive to reach goals (think sports). Hence, use some inspirational tools such as progress charts wherein they do receive an award or an incentive when they reach the "goal" of making two points into the "potty." Scolding your young man for accidents is more likely to cause rebellion than it is to inspire him to relieve himself in the "goal." Once you convey to your little man that they are working toward a goal, and physically showing his progress by charting and/or providing him a reward, he is much more likely to become the little potty hunter that his instincts purvey.
