Pet ownership is always a significant commitment, and more often than not, though children agree to be responsible for loving and caring for their pets, that responsibility ends up falling on the parent’s shoulders. The Pet Care Contract is the perfect tool to help children understand and to be held accountable for the duties and care that it takes to be a cat owner and to realize that pets are not just gifts you get on your birthday but significant lifestyle changes. This contract can guide parents in communicating with their children how they expect them to treat their cats and what responsibilities they will have before they can get their pet. If the child is not able to fully grasp the level of care and responsibility needed to be a great cat owner from the contract, it may help the parent communicate their decision to hold off on owning a cat until later.
